Investor Calls on Cambodia’s Justice Ministry to Intervene in YY Capital Case

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — An investor in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has appealed to Cambodian authorities for help in a dispute with the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, citing alleged financial misconduct and breaches of trust.

In letters submitted to officials, including one to the Ministry of Justice, the investor claims he was defrauded and financially harmed by Yamada, a Japanese national serving as the company’s chairman. The investor alleges that multiple real estate deals in Cambodia were manipulated, with preliminary findings indicating that about $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal gain and the benefit of others.

The letters also accuse Yamada of creating fictitious transactions, including loans totaling over $7 million, as well as forging documents and diverting significant sums of cash through shell companies linked to him and alleged collaborators. Some funds, the investor claims, were transferred to an overseas bank account in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.

Further allegations suggest that Yamada established shell companies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan using nominee directors, while maintaining direct control over the companies’ bank accounts and transactions.

The letters note that Cambodian prosecutors have already filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others, and that assets and bank accounts have been frozen under court orders. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities in several countries—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—are reportedly examining related allegations, including embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering.

The investor urged Cambodian authorities and courts to conduct thorough investigations, warning that interference could allow suspects to avoid accountability, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.
